Natasha Adorlee Residency

We are closing out February with a brand new piece from the one and only Natasha Adorlee! South Chicago Dance Theatre had the privilege of working with Natasha for eight intensive rehearsal days. Throughout her process, a quartet was chosen and a 15-minute dance was created. It includes props, physically demanding dancing, athletic lifts and stunts, and forward-moving and intense music.
Natasha works collaboratively with dancers to create intricate and risky partner work. We began the week with many duets, trios, and one lengthy solo. Natasha then combed through the material, placing it to compelling music, identifying peak moments and attaching it to phrasing so that the musicality is flawless. She integrated transitions between songs, choreographed thrashing group moments, and intertwined fierce lifts and throws together to create a physically demanding quartet.
This piece – titled “Slip Force” is exciting to watch, non-stop, and thought provoking. Natasha described the title to be multi-meaning. The dancers are physically wearing slips, a prop onstage is a house of cards and the term ‘slip force’ is used in card magic, and the movement itself is forceful.
Working alongside Natasha these past couple weeks was a privilege. She is gentle, does not rush through her process, and has the kindest spirit while being highly passionate about her craft.
We are so thankful for our first outside choreographer residency of Season 9!
