Choreographic Diplomacy™

Through the Choreographic Diplomacy™ Program, SCDT targets countries and communities who do not have an extensive presence or history of being presented in the United States and specifically the City of Chicago. Beginning in the Fall of 2018, SCDT’s Kia S. Smith and Joseph Kim of Choomna Dance Company based in Seoul, South Korea began their four year trans pacific collaboration. This inaugural diplomatic partnership has encompassed meetings with the US Embassy in Seoul, the commissioning of new work performed in both Seoul and Chicago, and visits to each artists respective countries where they have been holistically integrated into the quotidian life and customs of Korean and American culture.
