Fellowships & Professional Development

South Chicago Choreographic Fellowship

Launching in February 2022, as a part of the SCDT’s 5th anniversary season, the South Chicago Choreographic Fellowship is an initiative that will support the preservation of historic dance work through archival research and the commissioning of new work for the SCDT Main Company and Emerging Artist Program. Working in tandem with the Choreographic Diplomacy Program, fellows will have access to a global network of dance makers, composers and audiences to build collaborative efforts in the development of new work. The 2021-2022 inaugural fellow will create a new work for SCDT’s Emerging Artist program and receive mentorship from Chicago based dance maker Nejla Yakin.

Not currently accepting applications for 2023.

South Chicago Arts Administration Fellowship

The South Chicago Arts Administration Fellowship will provide an opportunity to a university level student in the Spring of 2022. Under the tutelage of the SCDT’s Marketing and Public Relations consultant, the fellow will become acquainted with marketing for concert dance in conjunction with the company’s inaugural Harris Theatre for Music and Dance season.

Professional Development Sessions

Through the generous support of the Arts Work Fund and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events Professional Development Series, SCDT offered professional development opportunities with both virtual and in person options for attendees over the course of the 5th Anniversary season. The first series of the season was presented by Erica Lynetre Edwards and Kenny Borchard of Cultivating Better Tomorrows in their signature Anti-Racism training. All professional development took place at no cost to attendees.

Stay tuned for additional professional development opportunities!
